The Time I Made a Charcuterie Board for Canaan Cox
There’s something I’ve learned over the years — in business, life, and chasing opportunities:
Sometimes you just have to shoot your shot.
No overthinking. No waiting for permission. Just putting yourself out there.
This past weekend, I was heading down to see country artist Canaan Cox perform in Buffalo, NY. If you know me, you know country music has always been a huge part of my life — it’s the soundtrack in my car, kitchen, and honestly, so many chapters of my story.
About a month or so ago, a random idea popped into my head:
“What if I offered to make something for their green room?”
Now — I had never met Canaan. Nobody asked me to do this. I simply reached out and offered to create a charcuterie board for him and his band.
Honestly? I expected no response.
But to my surprise…
He said yes.
And suddenly, this small idea turned into one of those moments that reminded me why putting yourself out there matters.
Because if you know me, you know I don’t just make a charcuterie board — I create an experience.
I wanted it to feel thoughtful and welcoming, so alongside a beautifully curated board, I added some fun Canadian goodies for Canaan, his band, and his family to enjoy.
And honestly? It was such a cool experience.
Not because it was flashy.
But because it reminded me of something important:
The worst someone can say is no.
Some of the best opportunities, friendships, and memories happen because someone was brave enough to ask.
To send the message.
To raise their hand.
To simply say:
“Hey, I’d love to do this.”
Whether it’s pitching yourself, applying for the dream job, or bringing a charcuterie board backstage to a country concert…
You genuinely never know what can happen.
10/10 would shoot my shot again.
