Blue Cheese : Yes or No?
It’s one of the most common questions I get when curating boards:
“Do you include blue cheese?”
And the honest answer is… usually no — unless it’s specifically requested.
Here’s Why
Blue cheese is bold.
It’s rich, salty, and unmistakably distinct.
People tend to fall into one of two categories:
they absolutely love it… or they really don’t.
There’s rarely an in-between.
When I’m creating a board — whether it’s for a gathering, a client gift, or an event — my goal is always the same:
to make it feel abundant, approachable, and easy for everyone to enjoy.
It’s Not Just About Variety — It’s About Balance
A beautiful board isn’t just a mix of ingredients.
It’s a thoughtful balance of flavors, textures, and familiarity.
I focus on cheeses that:
Pair effortlessly with meats, fruits, and preserves
Offer a range of textures (soft, creamy, firm, aged)
Feel elevated, but still approachable
You’ll often see things like:
Creamy brie
Aged cheddar
Nutty gouda
Herbed goat cheese
These choices create a board that feels inviting — something people naturally gravitate toward without hesitation.
But… There’s a Time and Place for Blue Cheese
When it is requested — or when I know it suits the crowd — it can absolutely have a place.
The key is how it’s incorporated:
Paired with honey or fig to soften the intensity
Balanced with nuts or fresh fruit
Styled intentionally so it complements, rather than overpowers
When done right, it adds depth.
But it should never dominate the experience.
My Approach
Every board I create is designed with intention.
Sometimes that means including something bold.
Sometimes it means leaving it out.
Because more isn’t always better —
balance is what makes a board feel effortless.
Final Thought
If you’re a blue cheese lover, I’ve got you.
If you’re not, you won’t miss it.
And if you’re unsure, I’ll always guide you toward something that feels just right for your table.
